Chilean Senator asks his Government to help Cubans with a "democratic visa"

The senator added that the Island is "a country that for years has been trapped in a dictatorship without even the possibility of the Cubans themselves being able to leave the Island to seek a better future."

Felipe José Kast Sommerhoff (1977) is a Chilean commercial engineer, consultant and politician, senator for the Araucanía Region for the period 2018-2026, who was a deputy for Santiago de Chile between 2014 and 2018.

During the first government of Sebastián Piñera he was first Minister of State and then presidential delegate for the emergency camps and villages occupied by the victims of the February 2010 earthquake in Chile.

Kast met the CubanEmelia Puga Bermúdez, with whom he has four children, during a year of studies (Marxist economics and sociology) that he studied at the University of Havana when he was an Economics student at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC). He would then travel to the US to obtain a doctorate at Harvard.
