A Cuban has denounced on the Internet the terrible construction state of a suburban highway in Holguín.

Yordan Mercade Leyva, bus driver, published in the Facebook group called “Bus Drivers Forever”, several photographs that reveal the advanced deterioration of a road in the eastern province, on which, according to the images, several types of vehicles circulate. .

“Will there be suburban roads like this in the country or is it only in Holguín?” he questioned.

“Route 201 Ciudad Jardín - Certeneja”, he specified.

The photos, taken from the cabin of a bus, show the huge potholes filled with water, along several meters of the road.

In one of the photos you can see a taxi trying to move forward while it plunges into one of the holes in the road, unable to avoid it in any way.

The poor state of the streets and highways in Cuba has been the subject of numerous criticisms from citizens, especially because both the potholes and the lack of signage have caused numerous accidents.

In June of this year, members of the Facebook group called Friends of the Motor, reported the existence of apothole in the Nuevitas municipality, in Camagüey, which is already six years old old and has caused problems for dozens of vehicles.

“According to what they say, there have already been 10 different vehicles in 6 years that have fallen into the same hole in Nuevitas,” said user Andy Delgado, who posted images of a taxi and a truck fallen into the hole.

“That gap can no longer be covered, it is the city's Heritage”; “Next year it will be a World Heritage Site”; "The Bermuda Triangle"; “Surely it was the Americans too”, “The Blockade”, were some of the comments generated by the photos.

“The state itself does not realize that repairing that hole costs, let's say, 1,000 dollars, and by not repairing it there are already more than 15,000 in damages, but what are we going to do, the logic of communism is like that. Not counting the price of a human life, which cannot be calculated,” wrote a commenter on the post.

In June 2019, a dedicated taxi driver celebrated the“birthday” to a pothole located on the road that goes to the Airport International José Martí, specifically in the Abel Santamaría neighborhood, in Boyeros, Havana, with whom he said he had become “attached,” after seeing him there for 15 years.

“Congratulations to our beloved Abel Santamaría CUPET space, close to Terminal 3, for your almost 15 years they wish you Transtur, Transmetro, Taxis Cuba and other transport companies…”, expressed the taxi driver on his Facebook wall.

76 percent of the more than 71,000kilometers of roads on the Island “are regular or in poor condition”, as revealed last year by the Minister of Construction, René Mesa Villafaña.

The National Road Center announced that for 2019, the laying of some 100 thousand tons of asphalt on the National Highway was planned, while the repair of the deteriorated Central Highway would have to continue waiting.
