Two FBI agents died and three others were injured after a shooting that took place this Tuesday around 6:00 in the morning in the vicinity of 10100 Reflections Boulevard, in Sunrise, Florida.
“A team of law enforcement officers was there to execute a search warrant ordered by a federal court in support of a violent crimes against children case,”declared the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Miami officially on its website.
Agents from the Davie police and the FBI participated in the operation as is usually established with search warrants, which require having a police car parked outside the target's residence; Other law enforcement agencies arrived to the area after the shooting.
Otisha Browning-Smith, spokesperson for the Sunrise Police Department, said a person barricaded himself inside a home after officers attempted to serve the warrant.
According to local media reports, the suspect took his own life and two of the injured officers are believed to be at Broward Health Medical Center, where there was a large police presence on Tuesday morning. The third injured person was not hospitalized.
The Sunrise Police Department is issuing alerts on Twitter for nearby residents to use alternative routes.
Members of the FBI said the Internet protocol address of the suspect's computer had been obtained from information from an Internet services company and then compared it to the address of the residence they were investigating.
A Justice Department spokesperson told that Acting Attorney General Monty Wilkinson has been informed about the shooting and is closely monitoring the situation.
“The FBI Inspection Division is investigating the incident. The review process is complete and objective and is carried out as expeditiously as possible under the circumstances. Because this is an ongoing investigation, no further information will be released at this time,” the agency explained in the statement.
