As is customary every January, the magazine Baseball America publishes the 10 best prospects per organization and also leaves a guideline on those prospects who have outstanding tools within each team.
For the 2021 campaign, seven Cubans were chosen by the evaluators among the best in their organizations:
The Tuner Eddy Martinez, classified as the best arm from the Chicago Cubs outfield, a distinction he already had in 2020. Martínez could climb with the Cubs to the Major Leagues if he proves to surpass the Triple-A level.
Another gardener is from Pinar del Río Andy Page, who is also part of the Dodgers' top 10 prospects along with Miguel Vargas. Pagés, who was involved in a trade that didn't happen last season, has an excellent arm coupled with his hitting skills.
The other elite defender is José “El Fino” García, debutant in the Major Leagues in 2020 and who is ranked as the best defensive infielder of the Cincinnati Reds, a courtesy that fell to Alfredo Rodriguez during the previous season.
Various launchers like Adrian Morejon who has the “best changeup” and “curve” within the Padres’ rich talent system or Johan Oviedo, who received the opportunity with the Cardinals in 2020 and repeats in 2021 with the best slider in the franchise.
Special mention for two pitchers who belong to the Oakland Athletics Minor League system. The Guantanamo Miguel Romero, inserted in the 40-man roster and one of the strongest candidates of the “Cuban legion” to debut in MLB during 2021. Romero has the “best curve” of the organization and the Santiago native Richard Guasch He owns the best slider.
Guasch has had a notable development in the Minors and in 2021 he could approach the confines of the Double-A or Triple-A level, in the best of scenarios.
