Cuba reiterated that containers to Europe were "pregnant" with drugs in third countries

By the end of the year, Cuba will have 117 pieces of Chinese technology equipment for the detection of narcotic substances, including ingested drug scanners that will be installed at the airports of Santiago de Cuba and Camagüey, as part of a donation from Beijing, estimated at more than 16 million dollars, said Pérez González, in statements to Juventud Rebelde.

Cuba reiterated thatthree containers, loaded with charcoal and bound for Europe, were impregnated with drugs, during transshipment operations in ports in Latin America, which he did not identify.

The vice chief of the General Customs of the Republic (AGR),William Perez Gonzalez, recalled that three containers with charcoal sold to Europe werepregnantwith considerable volumes of drugs in ports in Latin America, using the "Blind Hook" method and that, in all cases, it was determined that the drugs were not loaded in Cuba, where the authorities complied with the rules and legislation in force in trafficking. maritime.

The "Blind Hook" system consists of introducing drugs hidden in bags that, in turn, are hidden in a container with legal cargo from a company that does not raise suspicions without the senders or recipients of the legal cargo knowing it.

The deputy chief of customs attributed the information about the case to an attempt to discredit Cuba, where preventing drugs from entering, promoting an internal market and taking the national territory as a transit or warehouse for narcotics to third countries is an government priority, he stressed.

In 2019, the Panamanian government exonerated Cuba of the drugs found on a ship from the island, which arrived at the port of Colón, where employees in the service of drug trafficking introduced narcotics; while Havana denied any connection with the smuggling operation.

«This has been used in the discrediting action carried out against Cuba, because they have not stopped manipulating and trying to link our country to this activity. Our integrity in this regard has always been demonstrated because the AGR is very clear that preventing drugs from entering, promoting an internal market and using the national territory as a transit or warehouse for drugs to third countries is a priority.

By the end of the year, Cuba will have 117 pieces of Chinese technology equipment for the detection of narcotic substances, including ingested drug scanners that will be installed at the airports of Santiago de Cuba and Camagüey, as part of a donation from Beijing, estimated at more than 16 million dollars, he specifiedPerez Gonzalez, in statements toRebel Youth.

The AGR is preparing the reopening of Cuban borders, once the coronavirus pandemic passes, with greater preparation of its staff in the review of postal shipments, and a new facility in the port of Havana, assured its vice chief, who recalled the effectiveness of 93 percent of dogs trained to detect drugs, on the Cuban borders.

Cuba has "strategically" strengthened cooperation with the United Nations Office to Fight Drugs and Crime, with the implementation of a global Container Control program in the Port of Mariel and the Havana Air Cargo Terminal, the exchange with other customs and agencies, as part of international collaboration against drug trafficking, concluded the vice chief of customs.

During 2020 and the first quarter of this year,Cuba seized more than 30 kilograms of drugs in 28 operations by its customs officers.
