The Carlos Manuel de Céspedes thermoelectric plant, in Cienfuegos, started up this Wednesday after a chain interruption of the National Electroenergy System (SEN) of Cuba.
The radio station Radio Ciudad del Mar published the information on Facebook, and several users of the social network confirmed that "The smoke is coming out of the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Thermoelectric Plant. It has turned on!!!".
The start-up of the generating plant comes to alleviate the situation in Cuba, which on Tuesday evening, in an unprecedented event, was under a general blackout due to the collapse of the SEN, according to official sources.
The Electrical Union confirmed on Facebook, after 8:00 p.m. (Cuba time), that "the National Electric System has an exceptional condition, 0 electricity generation (without electricity service in the country)".
According to the brief statement, "this complicated condition is also associated with the complex weather conditions that have affected the SEN infrastructure. The failure occurs in the western, central and eastern links."
A UNE specialist assured CyberCuba that the real cause is the "growing weakness" of the electro-energy system.
"In a weak SEN, any transient input or disconnection of loads and powers, even both at the same time, drags the system due to frequency, overcurrent or voltage oscillation," explained the expert.
So far some Cuban cities have recovered electricity service, but others still remain in total blackout.
