A Florida man was sentenced this Monday to60 years in prison bysexually abuse a child during trips to Fiji, authorities reported.
Jason R. Moore, 43 years old and resident of Milton,sexually abused a child on multiple occasions during his stay in that Oceanian country, in 2013 and 2016, as recorded incourt documents.
In late 2022, Moore was arrested in Santa Rosa County, Florida, by special agents from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
The case was investigated by the FDLE, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the New York State Police, thestatement of the US Department of Justice (DOJ).
This case was presented as part of theSafe Childhood Project, a national initiative launched in May 2006 by the DOJ, “to combat the epidemic of exploitation andchild sexual abuse”.
Following his arrest last December, authorities identified Moore as a preacher “who led mission trips in Florida, throughout the United States, Canada and Fiji.”
According to aPress release released then by the United States Attorney's Office Northern District of Florida, Moore was arrested on federal and state charges after beingaccused of sexual crimes, specifically “illicit sexual conduct in foreign places” from March 2013 to February 2016 in the Republic of Fiji.
The FDLE then indicated that the preacher was also accused of committing lewd abuse with a victim under the age of 12 in 2006 while he was in Pensacola, according tolocal press media. The report on Moore's sentencing, made public this Monday, does not refer to this case.
