Relatives of the fatal accident victim in Santiago de Cuba denounce the culprit's release on bail

Sources close to his family reported that the driver was “on the street”, on “precautionary” release on bail, and expressed their indignation at what they considered an injustice.

Relatives ofLeandro Creme, the Cuban professor whodied in a traffic accident that occurred on Friday, September 22 in Santiago de Cuba, they denounced the authorities' decision to release the alleged culprit on bail.

Cremé, 37 years old and resident of the El Ateneo neighborhood,He was driving a motorcycle and crashed into a car who allegedly invaded his lane in an overtaking maneuver. The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of reckless homicide.

This Tuesday, however, sources close to Cremé's family reported that the driver was "on the street", on "precautionary" release on bail, and expressed their indignation at what they considered an injustice and a questionable decision by the authorities.

“I started talking to his cousin today, and he tells me that the murderer was given a precautionary arrest, and is on the street on bail,” he said inFacebook the user identified asRayner Palacios Elers, friend of the victim.

Surprised by the supposed decision, Palacios Elers wondered how it was possible that a driver who, according to him, was responsible for a reckless homicide was granted bail, with witnesses and with his own guilty plea shared on social networks (which was later erased).

“I cannot believe that a man is on bail who kills another man, seriously injures another man and destroys a motorcycle. A guy who blames himself on the networks, after having committed the crime [and then] deletes the publication,” he said.

Palacios Elers assured that the alleged murderer is known for his bad record as a driver, since "he has been involved in other accidents, even fatal ones," but he has not been convicted for them.

Warning of the danger that the freedom of a driver with such a record represents for public safety, Cremé's friend asked "who guarantees that he will not leave the country while awaiting trial?"

After listing a series of evidence that, according to Palacios Elers, demonstrates the guilt of the other driver, he came to the conclusion that his release on bail was obtained by “leverage” or direct bribes.

“Because in order to be given bail for traffic crimes, the case must be more than substantiated, and demonstrate that the alleged offender was not at fault for the crime for which he is accused,” he assured.

Cremé's friend stated that he does not see sense in the authorities' decision, and raised suspicions of irregularities in this case. “There is a cat in here,” he concluded.

“Today, with the wave of emigration, it is on the surface. What would happen if this murderer leaves the country? What's up, Cuba? What about the police and justice? In what justice are we putting our trust?”, this Cuban who seeks justice for the death of his friend asked himself again.
