A Cuban was savagely beaten with a bat to steal his motorcycle and cell phone in the Güines municipality, in the province of Mayabeque, according to a citizen complaint that has gone viral on social networks.
A short and shocking video shows the victim lying on a hospital stretcher, seriously injured and with his head bandaged.
In the images, the man tries to speak while being calmed down by a woman, who is not clear if she is a family member or a health worker.
The Cuban assaulted in Güines would be admitted to Havana. Until the closing of this note, no other details have emerged about the circumstances of the violent incident.
The video has generated dozens of shocked comments from Cubans who are horrified with the unprecedented levels of violence that Cuban society has reached in recent months.
"God, what abuse! He is a person who does not mess with anyone, my lifelong neighbor. I saw the photograph today and it hurts me a lot. The police do nothing about it because they are not interested in the people, they are for his own interests and nothing more. A speedy recovery for Pity," wrote a neighbor of the victim.
“All this is very sad, may God have mercy on the people of Cuba”; “It is long past time for the people to take justice into their own hands, since the police do nothing about it to put an end to crime”; “There is too much violence, they are killing those most in need, what an outrage,” commented other outraged Cubans.
This week, the Police admitted in a report on the National Television News (NTV) the increase in violent thefts of motorcycles and assured that the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) has investigated and resolved 21 criminal acts of this type in the municipalities of Cerro and Boyeros, in Havana.
According to the report, there are 18 people charged and the majority of them remain in provisional prison for the use of violence they used in their actions.
From the ruling party they assured that 18 mopeds have been recovered in Havana, including electric motorcycles, combustion motorcycles and electric tricycles that had been stolen by force. However, the figure is insignificant given the continuous reports on social networks about incidents of this nature.
