The young Cuban Lester Dominguez continues to suffer from spinal problems, after more than a year after being attacked with machetes in Holguín by a man who brought him his cell phone.

His father, Dennis Dominguez, stated this Wednesday that his son feels in good health and has improved in terms of strength in his legs and arms, but he continues to have spinal problems that until now have prevented him from walking again.

"We continue waiting for complete recovery, in the midst of the adversity that exists in Cuba," he lamented on his wall of Facebook.

The teenager wanted to send greetings to the boxer Yordenis Ugás, who, according to Dennis, is very concerned about his son's recovery.

"We have to continue hoping with great faith that one day he will be able to walk again. Let's hope that he continues to evolve for the better, that God continues to perform the miracle of restoring him together with the doctors," he stressed.

Léster, 17, suffered a violent assault on March 22 of last year that left him seriously injured.

A year later, after much effort and dedication, he has managed to overcome many of the consequences of that attack, such as the bedsore that appeared on his back, and he no longer needs the mechanical ventilator to breathe, but it still doesn't stand.

"We have to continue working on the psychological part so that he is mentally well, since Lester has not yet been able to take a step," lamented his heroic father, who has accompanied him tirelessly during this time.

"Work is being done to strengthen the upper and lower limbs, but deficiencies are seen in the spine so that it has a correct posture to be able to continue seeking the standing position," he added.

Being able to walk again is the greatest desire and main concern of this young man and his father.

"It's been 11 months and he still hasn't been able to take a step"Why does the head tend to fall in the standing position?" Dennis Domínguez asked himself at the end of February.

Léster continues to evolve slowly and is getting stronger and healthier, although he still has a long way to go to fully recover.

"We have to think that [for] spinal injuries, the recovery time is six months to a year according to science, which advances more every day," his father said.

Dennis then detailed all the steps that a appropriate treatment to rehabilitate the spinal cord.

"One, meet the needs as they evolve; two, provide emotional support; three, improve their physical mental and emotional functioning; four, provide education and resources specific to spinal cord injury, electrical stimulation stimulates a certain muscle of the body to do the same job," he said.

"For God there is nothing impossible, the child continues to exercise and rehabilitate at the San Germán polyclinic with the resources that exist, with a lot of love from the professionals who care for him. Let's hope that God continues to perform the miracle of restoring him along with the doctors," he added.
