Shakira put an end to one of his biggest headaches in recent years: his problems with the Spanish Treasury, that accused of defrauding 14.5 million euros between 2012 and 2014. For this reason, up to eight years in prison and a financial fine of 23 million euros were requested for her.

But the Colombian singer He will not go to jail nor will he have to pay that amount of money, because it has reached an agreement by which has accepted three years in prison and a fine of 7.3 million euros. In return she has admitted that she did not pay taxes that he would have had to pay taxes in Spain between 2012 and 2014 as a tax resident that he was.

Until now she had defended that in those years she traveled around the world for her professional commitments and that the time she spent in Spain was to be with her then partner Gerard Piqué.

This agreement will save the artist a long legal battle to be able to be with her children in Miami, where she has begun a new life. His children are precisely the motivation behind the decision he has made.

"I have to choose my battles and the most important one now is to do everything so that my children live a full life and focus on what is really important: watching them grow and spending time with them, without subjecting them to the anguish of seeing their mother in a criminal trial with the wear and tear that entails," Shakira said in a statement issued by her team.

Shortly after making this agreement official at the Barcelona Court, where the singer appeared, she made a publication on Instagram reacting to what happened on November 20 in Barcelona, which was the city she lived in until a few months ago.

"A wolf like me always chooses family", he wrote, making it clear that Milan and Sasha are the reason behind not continuing their battle against the Spanish Treasury. Accompanying his words he published the speech he dedicated to his children at the Latin Grammy 2023.
