Coast Guard returns 17 Cuban rafters detained near the Florida Keys

The US Coast Guard (USCG) repatriated this Tuesday 17 Cuban rafters who were detained near the Florida Keys.

The rafters who are intercepted at sea They are almost entirely returned to Cuba and are not eligible to immigrate legally to the United States.

In statistics released by the US Department of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), it was known that 200,287 Cubans entered that country through its land borders in the recently concluded fiscal year 2023 (FY2023).

CBP added that a total of 18,083 Cubans arrived by sea and land to the United States in October alone, the highest number since December of last year.

Of the total, about 5,000 arrived by sea through the Straits of Florida: 4,408 through the Miami sector and 591 through the Tampa sector.
