The medical sector in Cuba is mourning the death of one of its members at just 31 years old.
Vladimir (Vlady) García Alemán, from Holguín, died early Monday morning at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Hospital due to a heart problem that he had suffered for a long time.
"He was decompensated from his heart disease, his heart couldn't take it anymore"Isbel Torres, IT, revealed on Facebook.
Hundreds of friends, relatives and colleagues expressed their sadness at the doctor's death.
"I still don't believe it. Vlady Alemán, the Vlady. Nephrologist and Sabinero by profession, more English than Big Ben with his Liverpool, witty and always happy, only you knew the pain you carried inside. Today all of us who knew you, from Freyre, Vocational, Medical Sciences or [the cast] El Bosque feel your departure and we are in mourning," he said inFacebook Alexander Martorell, physician resident in Nebraska.
"It is difficult to process a death. Much more so the death of a young person. It rises to power, amazement and pain, when it is someone you know, a colleague, and with whom you had an affinity. We shared tastes and criteria, thoughts," said Glen Ronald Tamayo, Internal Medicine resident.
"Today Holguín loses a prodigal son and Medicine is in mourning," he stressed.
In addition to his work as a doctor,Vlady German was rebellious, controversial and contestable, as described by his friend, the writer Ghabriel Pérez.
"He wrote few articles on the networks, but all of them had a frankness, civility and patriotism that many artists and intellectuals would like to have. He did not know how to remain silent. It was regulated in 2022, for some time without being able to practice the profession"he recalled inFacebook.
Precisely knowing that it was regulated by the regime was one of the reasonsled Vladimir Alemán to give up his profession in September 2022.
At that time, the young man published a message written in verse in which he listed his reasons for leaving medicine and suggested that the excessive workload during the pandemic had taken a toll on his health, specifically, on his heart.
"I gave my heart for you and you demand another effort from me / And you try to demand, when you prove the opposite"he questioned the government.
Surgeon Richard Castro Martínez, Alemán's friend and colleague in the hospital, expressed inFacebook that you don't have to be a genius to leave a mark.
"Sometimes you just need to be a man, a faithful friend, a dedicated doctor. No, you don't have to be gifted to be remembered. Today you left us, with the same speed with which you visited the Angiology room. (...) Not anymore some evil afflicts you. Jesus himself walks with you and you listen to his voice: The truth will set you free," he stressed.
García Alemán was one of the professionals who in 2021,In the midst of a pandemic, they denounced the collapse of the health system in Holguín and demanded from the government means to treat the sick.
The next year, criticized the low salaries of doctors and assured that for many of them going to work was like "a hobby", something they did for pleasure and not for money, since they did not earn enough to support their families.
"I no longer only earn less than the tobacco factory workers, but also the CADECA workers," he said, before asking for "justice for a profession as noble as the one I love."
In his farewell message, the writer Ghabriel Pérez shared inFacebook a fragment of a brave text that the late Dr. Vladimir García Alemán wrote on March 29, which reveals his ethics and integrity.
"I was always proud of my gown (...) And no, I do not despise what I am, on the contrary, I love it. I AM A DOCTOR, but at heart, I cannot continue working like this. When those who oppress us free our wings I will return to my robe from Ephesus. I miss serving, but not serving like this..." he said then.
