A man shot himself to death in a southwest Miami-Dade home at dawn this Wednesday in front of his girlfriend, who was also wounded by the same fatal bullet, police reported.
The incident occurred around 4 a.m. at a residence in the 11000 block of Southwest 30th Street. The agents responded to a 911 call and upon arrival found the man deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Miami-Dade Police spokesman Álvaro Zabaleta explained, the media quoted him as saying. NBC Miami.
He said the couple was arguing in a room when the man pulled out a gun and shot himself; but unfortunately the same bullet that took his life hit his girlfriend in the head. The woman's four children under the age of 12 were in the house.
The authorities consider that this is a case of suicide, not necessarily a attempted murder-suicide domestic, Zabaleta explained.
The injured woman was transported by Miami-Dade firefighters to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in stable condition; while their relatives picked up the children, who will be interviewed in the next few hours.
The minors are the woman's children and the result of previous relationships. They were not injured.
The same woman was the one who called 911, and one of the children also contacted a familiar, who informed the authorities.
For their part, the neighbors said they were surprised by the tragedy and assured that they did not know the family, since they had only been living in the house for a few days. They moved into the house on March 1.
The identity of those involved in this incident, which remains under investigation by authorities, has not been revealed.
