A man was arrested and accused of beating and trying to suffocate his pregnant wife in Opa-locka, a city in Miami-Dade County.

Kelvin Dávila, 20, was arrested last week for a 20-year-old man who they said beat and strangled his six-week-old wife.

The incident occurred on March 29 around 10:30 pm, at a house near the 1300 block of Peri Street.

The Police received a call reporting an attack with injuries, and when they arrived, they found the victim crouching in an alley, as if he were hiding from someone.

The woman told officers that Dávila allegedly choked her, slapped her, bit her and hit her, after accusing her of being in a "too bad mood" while they were previously at a Walgreens in Miami Gardens.

According to her story, while the man was driving home with her in the car, the young woman tried to get out of the car and he pulled her forcefully by her hair, grabbed her left arm and twisted it, causing her pain.

Upon arriving at the house, he threatened to enter her against her will, and when she refused, Dávila forcibly removed her. The woman continued to resist and clung to a fence until a passerby intervened and threatened to call the police.

Then Dávila got back into the car, a white Kia, and fled.

According to the arrest report, consulted byLocal 10, the victim had swelling on his lips, cheeks and forehead, as well as bruising on his left arm, particularly his biceps, which appeared severely bruised.

She was treated by paramedics and transported to Jackson North Medical Center for further evaluation.

The couple has been living together for six months and got married a month ago, and this is their first child.

Subsequently, Dávila voluntarily surrendered to the Police and was taken into custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He faces a charge of aggravated assault on a pregnant victim.
