A 38-year-old man identified asMiguel Reyes Jrwas arrested in connection withthe intentional fire that occurred in a barbershop in Hialeah in the early hours of Friday, which left the premises, owned by a young Cuban who had acquired the business approximately a month ago, destroyed.
Reyes appeared in bail court this Saturday on charges of first-degree burglary and arson.
During the hearing, Judge Mindy S. Glazer specified that the burglary charge could result in a life prison sentence, as detailedTelemundo 51.
In response to the request of the state prosecutor,The judge granted preventive detention for the accused and denied him the right to bail on the two main charges.
Additionally, an order was issued to restrain the suspect from both the scene of the incident and the victim.
For the charge related to a destructive device used for the fire - which was a Molotov cocktail - a bond of $7,500 was imposed.
So far police have not provided information about the second suspect.
The barbershop was destroyed after approximately 3:24 a.m. on Friday Miguel Reyes and another subject will launch a Molotov cocktail against the local. The incident was recorded on security cameras.
The furniture, ceiling, walls and glassFresh Parras Barber Shop, located on First Avenue and 49th Street in West Hialeah, were burned.
However, the city's firefighters responded immediately and were able to contain the fire, which fortunately did not spread to other locations.
The owner of the barbershop, identified asJariel Esquivel said he had no idea who did something like that.
“This was something unexpected. "I only ask God to give me the strength to be able to solve this problem and for everything to be peaceful," Esquivel said in statements toAmerica Camel.
Eight employees worked in the barbershop who are now left on the street.
“We really feel bad. All of us guys are out of work now, basically it's supposed to be resolved little by little, but we're going to get ahead. We are children of God and it is worth it for this to make us hit rock bottom to get ahead again.”, concluded the young Cuban.
In addition to the barbershop, there are four other commercial establishments in the building, of which two were also affected.
Until the closing of this note, it is unknown if the victim and Miguel Reyes - whose nationality of origin has not been revealed - know each other.
