A short post on the profile ofFacebook of the prominent professor reports that “yesterday (Monday, April 22) I filed a complaint with the Matanzas military prosecutor's office against the officers who had to do with the events of Thursday. According to the minutes, such events may constitute the crimes of Injuries, Illegal Deprivation of Liberty and Revelation of the Secrecy of Communications.”
The 58-year-old academic assured that “as a victim, I can be part of the process and appoint a lawyer, which I will do.”
López Hernández was arbitrarily detained last Thursday at the Bacunayagua police checkpoint, when he was heading from Matanzas to Havana to carry out a peaceful protest in the capital's Central Park.
The prominent intellectual was released a few hours later, although during the process, State Security revealed images of the arrest of the Cuban intellectual in Matanzas, in an attempt to discredit her.
Several activists rejected the Cuban regime's methods of repressive manipulation and torture.
The academic reported the events on social networks and commented that she had to go to the Orthopedic Guard Corps consultation at the Faustino Pérez Provincial Hospital, in Matanzas, where he was diagnosed with a right humeral dislocation (right shoulder sprain) and a subluxation in the thumb of his left hand.
In November 2023, López Hernández was brought to trial by thealleged crime of “disobedience”, after in April 2023 he went out with a sign to the central park of that city to demand the release of the writer and journalistJorge Fernandez Era.
After the trial, she was found guilty, and sanctioned by the Matanzas Municipal Court to pay a fine.
