Neighbors capture an alleged thief in Santiago de Cuba

The man was captured in the heart of the city.


An alleged thief who stole a phone from inside a home was captured by neighbors and handed over to the police on Monday night in the El Tívoli neighborhood, in Santiago de Cuba.

And video broadcast by journalist Yosmany Mayeta shows the moment when the subject from the ground denied being a thief and said that the phone had been sold to him for 200 pesos.

The individual would have been captured on Santa Rita Street, between Barracones and Santiago Alley, in the heart of the city.

Although the thief managed to escape, they were able to catch him thanks to the collaboration of the neighbors, who fell behind him.

The private home where the thief went to rob is located in Santiago Alley, between Santa Rita and San Carlos, also in the Tivoli neighborhood, very close to where he ended up being arrested.

"After my question as to whether the phone had been sold to her for 200 pesos in national currency, as the thief said in the video, Roxana responded: 'He stole it. My phone is an iPhone XS Max, which costs 60 to 65 thousand pesos.”concluded the source.

The family who was the victim of the robbery filed a complaint and say they do not plan to withdraw it. They also ask that the person be taken back to prison, since they were informed that the subject is a repeat offender in this type of criminal acts.

At the moment, the alleged thief remains detained in the Second Unit of the Santiago de Cuba Police, known as “El Palacete.”
