The mother of a Cuban woman who was shot and killed by her ex-partner in Florida City, Miami-Dade, needs a humanitarian visa to be able to say goodbye to her daughter.

Odelsa Márquez, the mother of Yessenia Rodríguez Márquez, is in Ecuador; from there, she is seeking the assistance of a politician or immigration lawyer to obtain a visa that will allow her to travel to the United States to say a final goodbye to her daughter.

"I can't close that chapter, although as a mother, one never truly closes that chapter. But at least with a farewell where I could embrace her, where I could talk to her even though she is gone; I haven't been able to have that, and it's something that is needed," she stated to Telemundo 51.

Yessenia, 44 years old, had only been in the country for nine months when she was shot to death inside a car by her ex, Alexander Roque, 48 years old, on April 22. After committing the crime, the man drove to the police station with the body in the passenger seat.

"I want to understand it, but I can't... not because I'm the mother, but because no one who truly understands what it means to feel love for others could do something so barbaric," Odelsa questioned.

The victim's body has not been released by the police to the family because the investigation is still in its initial phase.

Yessenia and her 12-year-old daughter arrived in the United States thanks to a humanitarian parole submitted by the girl's father. They all lived together until she met Roque.

That new relationship lasted barely three months. As Odelsa revealed, her daughter decided to leave the home of the now-accused because he began to exhibit a violent demeanor.

"We need a niche for her because her daughter wants her to stay there. If not, I would go, collect the ashes, and bring them back, but the daughter wants her mother to stay there with her," she requested.

According to the arrest report, before being apprehended, the killer sent photos of Yessenia's body to his mother and his ex-husband

"What a horrifying thing it is to be human... if we can even call it being human," the lady expressed.
