Díaz-Canel does not guarantee a summer without blackouts: "Under the current conditions, it is very difficult."

Díaz-Canel said that although there may be power outages in the summer, they will try to ensure that they are not prolonged.

What the Cuban people feared since blackouts worsened has just been confirmed by the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel: there are no guarantees that the summer months will pass without disruptions in the electrical service.

The leader acknowledged this in his new YouTube channel hosted by himself, where he addressed the situation of electricity generation and short, medium, and long-term projections.

Díaz-Canel reiterated what the Electric Union (UNE) announced days ago, that power outages will increase this month and next due to the increase in maintenance work at the thermoelectric plants, in an effort to ensure service in July and August.

"We are going to have extended maintenance until the month of June in order to minimize the inconvenience of power outages in the summer, especially in the months of July and August," he pointed out.

When referring to the upcoming months, the director of UNE, Alfredo López Valdés, tried to show optimism by stating that "we are aware that we are experiencing major blackouts, but there is a tendency to improve."

According to the manager, no maintenance works have been planned for any thermoelectric plant in July, which does not mean that things are going to go well. "We are going to have the breakdowns that normally occur in the system, we are going to have the limitations that normally occur in the system."

That same optimism was also expressed by Díaz-Canel when he stated that "in July and August, all stations will be operating, unless they are out of service due to a breakdown."

Minutes later, López Valdés clarified his statements when he said: "We are not sitting idle, we are fighting, but we cannot commit to something that today... Will there not be a blackout? No, we cannot commit."

The ruler, for his part, supported his expert by saying that achieving zero power outage, under current conditions, is very difficult.

"There may be a blackout at a certain time, and we will work to ensure that they are not prolonged, that they are not of long duration," Díaz-Canel added.
