A young man died this weekend in Santiago de Cuba after drowning at La Estrella beach, a small stretch of coast near the Morro.

The young man was found "floating face down" on La Estrella Beach by a young child who, upon seeing him, started screaming. Therefore, it is presumed that he had been drowned for a while," journalist Yosmany Mayeta reported on social media, citing witnesses' accounts.

The victim, identified as Raúl Consuegra and residing in the Flores neighborhood, was assisted by a family who took him to the hospital.

Nelson Luis Rojas, who was at the beach with his family, told our website that he and his wife provided first aid to the young man and took him to the Joaquín Castillo Duany Military Hospital," Mayeta detailed, who assures that the source detailed that when they put the victim in the front seat of the car, he still had vital signs.

Upon arriving at the Hospital, the stretcher-bearer was not there, so they themselves had to enter, take out a stretcher, and with the help of another young woman, lay him down so that he could be attended to.

"When they took him for observation, he was foaming at the mouth, and I asked the doctor on duty if he was alive and he did not respond," Nelson Luis Rojas pointed out to the communicator.

In the comments section of the post, hundreds of internet users lamented the death of Raúl Consuegra, whom they described as a good person, very cheerful, and jovial.

Several commentators pointed out that Raul used to travel on his scooter and were suspicious that the story was not being well told, that the death was violent, and that third parties were involved, a claim that was refuted by several people who claimed to have witnessed or had direct knowledge of what happened.

I was there. He was with his girlfriend, and their motorcycle and belongings were placed in the care of a friend of theirs. The girl was sitting in the same place as me eating. She went to charge her phone and the scooter," wrote internet user Amanda Correoso.

"There is nothing wrong here, gentlemen. These are things of life. Rest in peace, may he be in a good place," Correoso concluded, whose testimony was confirmed by another person.

That was indeed what happened. A neighbor who was at the beach also recounted what happened and even brought the motorbike to his house," pointed out a second source.

"He was not alone and the motorbike was taken to his house. They alerted his mother. Perhaps they should have come to his aid sooner because according to the medical staff, they took too long to get him out of the beach. That is to say, not out of the water, but from the place to the hospital. Nevertheless, gratitude is expressed to those who ultimately took him to the hospital," noted a person familiar with the case.

"I do not rule out the possibility that something may have been done to him, but let us not spread slander either. A person can drown in a pool full of people in just seconds," warned another commentator.

Until the closing of this report, official sources have not commented on the sad incident.

Unfortunately, this is not the first incident of its kind reported in Santiago de Cuba in recent days.

In the middle of this month, two young people drowned at Sardinero Beach, also in Santiago de Cuba, when a group of nine people, including three minors, were swimming in that dangerous stretch of coast where bathing is officially prohibited.

The first young woman who passed away was identified as Rachel Mora Torres, 20 years old and a resident of Mangos de Baraguá, as confirmed on social media by Aris Arias Batalla, provincial responsible for Aquatic Safety and Operations and Relief of the Red Cross.

The other deceased was Yasel Alberto Bicet, also 20 years old and a resident of the Abel Santamaría neighborhood, who remained missing for several hours, but later his body was found.

The three minors involved in that tragic incident, although they survived, were siblings aged between 8 and 17 years old. They were identified as Renato Cordero Torres (8 years old); Carlos David González Torres (15) and Carla González Torres (17).
