As the hours go by, new images of the "tornado" that on Wednesday afternoon caused material damage to nearly twenty homes in the town of San Antonio de Cabezas, in the municipality of Unión de Reyes, Matanzas, come to light.
A brief video posted on social media by Mariely Vázquez showed the meteorological phenomenon in full motion, accompanied by lightning.
The images in question - although without audio - allow us to sense the scare that the residents of San Antonio de Cabezas must have gone through, something that they themselves have attested to in statements to the local radio.
"I was sitting in the living room when suddenly I hear a noise. I stand up by the window and when I look, everything was already flying. Like a whirlwind, even chairs flying, it ended, it ended,” a resident in the area recounted.
"It was very terrifying. I can't explain it to you. I couldn't move from the doorway because of the tremors I was feeling," another witness stated.
A third interviewee said that everything happened very quickly, in a matter of five minutes.
Cuca run, a dark thing is coming for your thing, shouted a neighbor to me... My little girl started screaming and telling me, 'mimi, I don't want to die,' said a fourth resident in the area, who noted that her young daughter got very scared when objects started flying.
Despite the scare, fortunately, there were no injuries or loss of human lives reported, although there were material damages of varying degrees in at least 19 houses and other disruptions in the electrical system.
Marixma Miyares, director of the Provincial Meteorological Center, clarified that the damages caused were the result of a "severe local storm" accompanied by strong winds, and not a tornado.
However, those who experienced it firsthand continue to identify the phenomenon as such: as a tornado.
Residents confirmed that in a part of the town, the phenomenon happened about three times and it was felt very, very strongly.
This is not the first time in recent months that the province of Matanzas faces a meteorological phenomenon of this nature.
Last December, a similar phenomenon hit the municipality of Los Arabos, causing damage to at least 11 houses, although in that case, no injuries or loss of human lives were reported either.
