A presumed thief was captured by neighbors of the San Pedrito neighborhood in the city of Santiago de Cuba, but they decided to release him because the police never showed up.
A video shared on the social network Facebook by the communicator Yosmany Mayeta showed the moment when the individual was cornered against a fence, after allegedly robbing a house located on Guardado Street, between Loynaz del Castillo and Pedrera.
However, after a long wait, the people themselves made the decision to let him go due to the police's delay, which apparently ignored the report that was made. The young delinquent took advantage of that "stroke of luck" and ran off.
Situations like these are becoming increasingly common in the country. A couple of weeks ago, also in Santiago de Cuba, another man was caught in the neighborhood of San Pedrito, after allegedly snatching a cellphone from a girl.
Likewise, residents in the city of Las Tunas captured a man who stole a cell phone from a house and was in possession of six other phones, which he allegedly had also taken that same day.
In a Facebook post, the user Rosy GE reported that the individual had just taken a mobile phone from her sister's house, but was caught by neighbors and taken to a police station.
These events are almost becoming part of everyday life in Cuba amidst the increasing crime wave affecting the country.
