A Cuban woman who owns a grocery store in Miami discovered a man stealing from her business in the security footage and alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and caught the thief in the act.
Rosailys Casas, originally from Bejucal, Mayabeque, is the owner of the Rossy supermarket, located at 3445 NW 27th Ave in Allapattah, a neighborhood within the metropolitan area of the city.
According to a report to Local 10, on Friday, around 1:30 a.m., he woke up with a "bad feeling" and decided to check his cameras. He then saw a man with his face covered by his shirt walking through the establishment, looking for money and tossing items into his backpack.
"He went straight to the register, took the money that was here, and had a backpack to carry it. He took everything he could," he told Telemundo.
The police arrived at the store while the criminal was still inside; he was arrested without resisting.
He was identified as Ariel Duvergel, a 54-year-old homeless man with permanent residency in Norcross, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia.
Authorities revealed that he forcibly entered the premises through a hole he made in the wall of a neighboring car dealership that adjoins Rosailys' establishment.
The Cuban businesswoman believes that Duvergel is the man who stole from her business about three months ago, taking away $10,000 in cash, along with cigars and medicines.
"I feel that God was good, God helped me. Thanks to God, this time it wasn't worse," he said to Local 10.
"These businesses are small; they are meant for survival, but it's sad. It's tough what is happening," he expressed to Telemundo.
The individual is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and is charged with multiple counts of robbery, criminal damage, and grand theft.
He appeared in the Miami-Dade County criminal court and was set bail at $13,000.
