Kiryat Poey has made a desperate appeal to the Cuban community in the United States, seeking support to continue the chemotherapy treatment of a 17-year-old teenager suffering from cancer in Cuba.

The young man suffers from a serious medical condition; he needs to receive chemotherapy every 21 days, but the necessary medication is not available at the William Soler Pediatric Hospital, where he is hospitalized.

Poey explained in a Facebook post that the only way to obtain the drug is through its purchase in the United States.

The treatment requires 12 chemotherapy bulbs, each costing 36 dollars, which adds up to a total of 432 dollars. The family is making an urgent appeal to raise 400 dollars.

"We kindly ask anyone who can collaborate to support us. We can only obtain that medication in the United States, and with the financial help of the community, we can manage to acquire it because it is very expensive," Poey stated.

He also thanked in advance all the people who can contribute to this cause, highlighting the importance of solidarity in such critical moments.

This difficult situation underscores once again the challenges that many families in Cuba face in accessing specialized medical treatments, and their dependence on international solidarity.

Despite the fact that the state is unable to guarantee even the serums in a hospital, in February, the Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel assured that his government is committed to the care of cancer patients.

"On World Cancer Day, our solidarity with all those fighting against this cruel disease. Cuba, in the midst of a genocidal blockade, will continue to provide the attention that every patient deserves, and we will not stop the development of medications against cancer," assured Díaz-Canel.

In Cuba, currently, more than 200 medications from the basic list needed in the country's hospitals are not being produced. The crisis in the healthcare sector is so severe that patients have to bring even the needles and stitches because there is nothing for the care of the population.
