An inspector from the Inspection Directorate of the municipality of Las Tunas was assaulted by a vendor when he attempted to sanction him, reported the Administration Council in that territory.
According to the informational note issued by the agency, the inspector, identified as Manuel Vilches García, “was conducting a control action with a self-employed worker in Popular Council 2 of the main municipality, detecting several violations by the offender.”
The publication adds that the seller expressed his annoyance at the authority's request and reacted violently, attacking with a bladed weapon.
"The inspector, who was accompanied by another Control authority, was immediately assisted and attended to," they stated.
They add that the inspector's life is not in danger, and they mention that the assailant has been arrested and "is being prosecuted for the crime committed."
They add that "the neighbors of the area immediately came and condemned the act committed."
They celebrate "the timely and vigorous actions of the forces of the National Revolutionary Police" after carrying out the arrest and transfer of the aggressor.
Since the last National Assembly of People's Power in its July session, the Cuban government has focused on monitoring self-employed workers to prevent them from raising prices on their products.
Last month, the government of Las Tunas closed 12 micro, small, and medium enterprises (mipymes) for violating the resolution that temporarily regulates maximum retail prices for the marketing of six basic products in high demand.
The official newspaper Periódico 26 reported that "in those 12 locations, forced sales of the stock they had in existence and that were not being marketed were carried out."
On the other hand, the level of violence in Cuba has been increasing, with almost daily reports of people being murdered, stabbings, or street fights that have plunged Cuban society into an insecurity that did not exist five years ago.
