After a day of anguish and relentless searching, Yubaisi, the mother of a child who had disappeared in Havana, has confirmed that her son is back home, but she insists that his behavior of running away from school was linked to the lack of medication he suffers from.
In a recent post, the mother expressed her deep gratitude to all the people who joined the search: "Thank God he is with me now. Heartfelt thanks to everyone and many blessings."
However, this happy ending has been overshadowed by an even deeper issue: the lack of access to essential medications that the child needs to maintain his mental health and keep his behavior under control.
According to the mother, little Reider, who is only 10 years old, is undergoing psychiatric treatment and is dependent on medications such as Carbamazepine, Risperidone, and Methylphenidate.
These are very strong medications and subject to medical prescription, therefore very complex to obtain both inside and outside of Cuba.
Carbamazepine is an antiepileptic drug; Risperidone is used in the treatment of behavioral disorders; and Methylphenidate is used to control the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, among other things.
The lack of these medications, which are currently out of stock in pharmacies in Cuba, has been one of the main reasons behind the child's erratic behavior, and therefore a key aspect that contributed to his disappearance.
Yubaisi made a call to the community, requesting urgent help to obtain the medications and stabilize her child's behavior.
"I urgently need someone to help me with Carbamazepine, Risperidone, and Methylphenidate... I would greatly appreciate it," he stated in his message.
