The Institute of Geophysics and Astronomy of Cuba (IGA) reported that next Tuesday, September 17, in the evening, a partial lunar eclipse will occur, which can be observed throughout the national territory.

The phenomenon will be visible in Europe, Africa, and nearly all of America, except for its westernmost part.

For Cuba, the eclipse will start at 8:39 PM.

The entry of the Moon into the Earth's umbra (shadowed area) will be at 10:11 PM and the peak of the eclipse will occur half an hour later, at 10:44 PM.

The end of the phenomenon will occur at 11:16 PM, and the end of the penumbral phase will be at 12:49 AM on Wednesday, September 18.

A lunar eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, blocking the sunlight that reaches the satellite and creating a shadow cone that darkens the Moon.

Lunar eclipses are partial when only a part of the Moon is obscured by the shadow cone and the rest remains illuminated by the Sun.

"All times in daylight saving time of the Republic of Cuba," clarified the IGA on its Facebook profile.

In November 2022, a total lunar eclipse occurred that could be seen from Cuba and other latitudes around the world.

For about an hour, the completely eclipsed satellite could be seen with the naked eye by simply looking to the west.

Although lunar eclipses are completely safe to view, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the United States (NASA) suggests using binoculars to better enjoy the spectacle.
