A Cuban woman shared on TikTok what shocked her the most upon arriving in the United States. The protagonist of this video is Zuly Rosales (the user @zulanymil), who describes the four aspects that left her perplexed about her life in her new country of residence.
The first of them was the use of clothes dryers. "The first thing was the laundry. How do you explain that people don't hang their clothes in the sun? No, people wash the clothes, then put them in the dryer, and from there the clothes are dry and you put them away. That's it," she commented, surprised by the common practice of not hanging clothes outdoors, something that contrasts with everyday life on the island.
The digitization of daily life was another element that amazed her: "You can buy a piece of furniture, order food, buy clothes, you can do everything with your phone."
Another point that struck her was that people use all kinds of transportation before they walk. "This makes me feel a bit self-conscious because every time I go outside, I'm the only one walking. People don't walk." Used to moving on foot in Cuba, she was surprised at how most people in the United States use some means of transportation.
Finally, the Cuban woman stated that the supermarkets in the United States left her surprised. "You walk in and see things you never imagined existed," she said, astonished. "I'm still adapting, it's been hard for me, but I'm adapting," concluded this young Cuban about her new life.
