On social media, we see many videos of Cubans learning English, but what happens when the roles are reversed and they try to teach others their language?
A young Cuban woman has committed to teaching Spanish to her American boyfriend, and it seems to have been quite difficult.
"I am Cuban and he is American, second attempt for him to speak Spanish," the girl is heard saying in a video she shared on her TikTok account @family.pickett.
Although she manages to keep up with him in English, her boyfriend gets quite tangled up with Spanish, especially when the words have an 'r' in the middle.
When the young woman asks him to translate 'good afternoon', he first mistakenly says 'eight'. After the laughter, his girlfriend clarifies that it is 'buenas tardes', and that’s where the true odyssey begins.
Pronouncing the diphthong formed by the vowels 'ue' is quite complex for him, but nothing compared to the 'r' in tardes that he is forced to repeat several times.
The couple has had several class sessions on TikTok, a moment that is very enjoyable for both of them.
