The Cuban content creator known as @kurly_la_peque has caused a stir on TikTok by revealing how much she pays in rent monthly in Louisville, Kentucky, where she lives. In her video, which has already garnered thousands of interactions, the TikToker detailed each of the expenses involved in living in her apartment, leaving many of her followers surprised.
“How much do I pay for my rent every month here in the United States, in the state where I live? I live in Louisville, Kentucky, and for my rent, I pay... 850 dollars, yes, every month I pay 850 for my rent,” he explained at the beginning of the video. Kurly continued describing the features of his home: “It’s a small apartment but it has two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living-dining room, a kitchen, and a basement the same size as the apartment.”
Additionally, he broke down other additional expenses, including $50 for water, $20 for garbage, and $35 for his pet. In total, Kurly estimated that his monthly rent, including electricity and internet, amounts to $1,195.
At the end, she asked the users of the network to share how much they were paying: "Tell me where you live, tell me how much you pay because we're all nosy here."
The video has generated extensive debate on the platform, where many expressed surprise at the low rent compared to other areas of the country: “In Miami, I won’t even tell you”; “Oh my God, tell me where it is, I also live in Louisville, I want a rent like that”; “I pay $1500 for a new 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment”; “Super cheap, I pay $2035 for a room in Miami”; “In Orlando, it's $2000 for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment,” some said.
Others shared their experiences about the cost of living in other states: “In Alabama it is super cheap, I pay 700 for 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms,” one person commented; “Here, I better not even tell you, the rent alone is 1700, the rest, uff, I’m going to have to go over there,” added another person from Massachusetts.
"I have to leave for Kentucky"; "What condo is that? Tell me, I live here in Louisville and everything is above 1200"; "Here in Louisville there are condos with apartments for 700 dollars, but six or seven nationalities live there and it's crazy"; "In Miami that apartment would be worth about 2000, not including electricity and other services"; "In New York, Miami, and California it's very expensive"; "I pay 1700 in Massachusetts for a one-bedroom, it's incredible what you pay"; "Here in Los Angeles they don't go below 2000 dollars for a room"; "I pay 1200 for a room and I have to pay for electricity separately," more joined the conversation.
The debate over rental prices continues to be one of the most talked-about topics on TikTok, where users often share their own experiences from different parts of the country. Comparisons between cities and states continue to generate astonishment among those, like Kurly, who live in areas where prices are relatively lower.
