Fire in raw materials warehouse in Güira de Melena

A fire at a raw materials center in Güira de Melena alarmed the neighbors, who shared the incident on social media. Firefighters responded, but the causes are still unknown and the authorities have not provided official information.

Yesterday afternoon, a medium-sized fire broke out in a raw materials center in the Artemisa municipality of Güira de Melena, according to neighbors who shared the information on their social media.

The fire, visible from much of the town, attracted numerous locals, who stated that, so far, the cause of the incident is unknown.

The fire department unit arrived at the scene to control the flames, but authorities have not yet provided official information about the causes or details of the incident, and state media have not reported on it. Residents continue to wait for answers while expressing their concern on social media due to the release into the air of toxic substances from plastics and other materials stored for recycling.

A user commented that the fire affected all the stored plastic. Several others pointed out that the incident was not caused by a short circuit, but rather it was a human action as a sign of protest against the serious situation the country is currently facing, worsened by the recent energy crisis that has left the country in the dark since October 18.
