Three Turks remain hospitalized after a fire in a power generation truck in Havana.

"Three patients are in critical condition. We are talking about three patients with approximately 40%, 30%, and 20% burns, respectively," detailed the national director of Hospital Services of the Ministry of Public Health.

Three of the eight injured in the fire that occurred on September 26 at the mobile generation unit KPS 57, located in the bay of Havana, remain hospitalized at the Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical Surgical Hospital.

This was reported by Dr. Fernando Trujillo Sánchez, national director of Hospital Services of the Ministry of Public Health, in an interview given to the Cuban Television News (NTV).

Of the three patients still hospitalized, Dr. Trujillo Sánchez specified that they have severe burns: "We are talking about three patients with around 40%, 30%, and 20% burns, respectively," the doctor detailed, according to Granma.

According to the medical report, two of them are in extremely critical condition, while the third is in very serious condition. The burns they have in some cases reach up to 20% of hypodermic depth, which further complicates their recovery.

"Three patients are in serious condition. One of them has burns affecting approximately 20% of their body surface. That one is classified as a very severe patient. The other two are classified as extremely critical and have about 37 to 40 percent of their body surface affected. Of these injuries, around 20% are comprised of hypodermic burns, meaning they are very deep burns. They have remained in a stable condition up to this moment," explained Trujillo Sánchez.

The other injured individuals, of Turkish nationality, have already been discharged after progressing favorably. Health authorities continue to monitor the evolution of the injured and remain alert to any complications.

The accident occurred while welding was being carried out on the vessel, which generated a fire that affected several workers, including Turkish and Cuban citizens.

So far, five of the injured have been discharged, including the only Cuban affected, who underwent surgery for a leg injury at Calixto García Hospital and has evolved satisfactorily.

The fire highlighted the risks associated with the maintenance of these electricity-generating barges, an inadequate solution to meet the energy demand in Cuba.

The day after it occurred, the Cuban regime reported on the fire and stated that the unfortunate event took place on Thursday morning while welding was being conducted on the KPS 57 trailer, which contributes 15 MW to the national electrical system (SEN).

Without providing any details, Félix Estrada Rodríguez, general director of the national cargo office of the Unión Eléctrica (UNE), assured that the fire was controlled quickly.

"The unit is available with its four engines; it did not suffer any damage that would prevent it from supplying power to the system," he commented to the television.
