A tragic traffic accident between a bus and a motorcycle claimed the life of a motorcyclist this Wednesday in Santa Cruz del Norte, Mayabeque Province, according to information shared by users on social media.

The deceased was identified as "Yunieski," a young man whom an internet user described as "a great guy and from an excellent family."

No details have emerged regarding the circumstances of the incident nor about the alleged cause of the accident.

An image shared in the Facebook group Accidente Automovilísticos en Cuba showed how the light vehicle ended up almost under the front wheels of the bus.

At the scene of the accident, the tank that allegedly carried gasoline is visible, according to witness statements (Facebook capture).

Just a few meters away, a bloodstain confirmed the extent of the victim's injuries, who, according to witness testimonies, died at the scene of the incident.

The motorcyclist is carrying a 20-liter gallon of gasoline on the motorcycle, according to a witness.

Another internet user with knowledge of that area described the corner where the incident occurred as dangerous.

Although the population perceives an increase in traffic accidents in recent months, Cuban authorities stated at the beginning of July that in the first half of 2024, 543 fewer incidents were recorded in the country compared to the same period the previous year.

In the official television program Mesa Redonda, Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Traffic Body of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), also reported that there were 81 fewer fatalities (23%) and a reduction of 151 injuries (5%) between January and June of this year, compared to the same period in 2023.
