Cuban man from Miami arrested for assaulting his ex-girlfriend

Doniell Pérez Pacheco, 30 years old and a resident of Hialeah, faces charges of battery with a deadly weapon, burglary with force, property damage, and burglary of a residence.

Doniell Pérez Pacheco, a Cuban resident of Hialeah, Miami-Dade, was arrested this week and is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after hitting and attacking his ex-girlfriend with a knife.

Pérez, 30 years old, was arrested by the police last Tuesday and appeared in court the day before, facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and three other charges: burglary with force, property damage, and breaking and entering, according to court reports.

The Cuban and the victim were in a relationship for three months, during which there were incidents of physical violence related to money.

Mike Vega, spokesperson for the Miami police, told AmericaTeVé that the first altercation between them occurred last August, when the accused began threatening his girlfriend.

"That's when he grabs the phone because she was recording him, throws it, and breaks it; then he grabs a knife, goes after her, and she tries to defend herself, and he cuts her on a finger," Vega explained.

According to the police report, a few days later, the victim asked Pérez to return the house keys and collect her belongings, so they met again at the residence. There, another fight broke out, during which - as the woman reported - he hit her on the head and then left.

This Tuesday, the Miami police detained the Cuban for questioning, but he refused to make a statement.

The police spokesperson emphasized that "this is another case of domestic violence where we tell victims that if they have a domestic issue, they should call the police immediately… there is help available for victims."

Judge Mindy Glazer of the Miami-Dade criminal court set bail for Pérez at $9,000 and ordered him to stay away from the victim, identified in the hearing as Amanda Cobas.

The defense attorney for the accused stated in court that his client works alongside his brother in pool repair and that he has no criminal record, although he has been arrested before.

Court documents indicate that Pérez has previous arrests by the police of El Doral, Miami-Dade, and the city of Miami for driving under the influence of alcohol, drug possession, and firearm possession, Vega specified.
