A Cuban from Miami was arrested this Monday for assaulting an elderly neighbor while he was sitting at a bus stop, the police reported.
On Monday, the driver of a car passing through the area of 930 SW 22nd Avenue saw a man beating and kicking a defenseless elderly man at a bus stop. He got out of his vehicle to shout at the attacker, who fled the scene upon being confronted, according to the arrest report.
The witness called 911, and subsequently, the alleged aggressor was arrested and identified as Yendry Sánchez, a 45-year-old resident of Miami, local media reported. The man is of Cuban nationality, as confirmed by CiberCuba.
The elderly man, who had serious injuries on his forehead and lips, as well as bruises on his head, was attended to by personnel from the Miami Fire Department and later transported to HCA Florida Mercy Hospital for further treatment. Authorities have not disclosed information regarding his age or current condition.
According to the Miami Police report, Sánchez lives in the same apartment building as his victim.
The man informed the officers that, before he was assaulted at the bus stop, his neighbor had shouted at him at the entrance of the building and kicked the front door, although he did not touch him at that moment.
However, when the elderly man left the building and headed to the bus stop, Sánchez followed him and, once they were there, attacked him. The violent incident was captured by surveillance cameras.
Sánchez was arrested on charges of aggravated assault against a person over 65 years old and was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK) in Miami-Dade. He appeared in court this Tuesday.
In September, another Cuban was arrested in Hialeah, charged with stealing a vehicle and assaulting an 87-year-old man in the parking lot of a Sedano's supermarket.
