The police in Santa Clara arrested six individuals linked to 19 break-ins at businesses and homes in the city, according to information from official sources.
The companies where the thefts occurred are mostly located in the industrial area of Santa Clara, explained Lieutenant Colonel Héctor de la Fe Freyre, head of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) in that city, to the state broadcaster CMHW.
The individuals detained in connection with these events include three people, two of whom are directly linked to the thefts, while the third is being charged as a receiver of almost all the stolen equipment.
According to the official, 14 thefts at those state entities have been clarified so far, and seven air conditioners, one split unit, four refrigeration machines, medications, speakers, lawn mowers, sanders, among other stolen goods, have been recovered.
He added that the main perpetrators of these acts are in provisional detention, in accordance with the nature of the crimes committed and their criminal and police records.
In relation to this case, the official urged companies to protect their assets, as despite having security personnel, they were not performing their duties properly.
Three other individuals were arrested in Santa Clara for thefts in the city. In this case, the criminals were residents of the province of Ciego de Ávila and were renting homes in the capital of Villa Clara.
“Soon after committing the acts, they proceeded to sell their possessions. So far, several fans, music equipment, refrigerators, clothing, pots, a toaster, a bicycle, perfumes, among other goods, have been recovered,” said the officer.
In this case, the three authors are being held in pretrial detention until the day of the trial, stated de la Fe Freyre.
The official also noted that the investigations remain open to identify additional victims and return the recovered property to its owners.
Recently, a man was caught at an elementary school located in the Reparto Nuevo Vista Alegre in Santiago de Cuba while attempting to steal a turbine.
On that occasion, it was the guards who noticed the situation upon finding the man with the turbine partially dismantled and stored in a backpack.
