A triple motorcycle collision that occurred on Wednesday night on Trocha Street in Santiago de Cuba left all three drivers injured.
After the impact—which occurred near the 12-story building—the motorcyclists were thrown through the air and lay on the roadway.
A video shared on social media by journalist Yosmany Mayeta revealed the seriousness of the situation.
The images show that two of the motorcycles involved were severely stuck to the asphalt with significant damage, while a third one was displaced to what appears to be the sidewalk as a result of the impact.
Witnesses at the scene acted quickly, transporting the injured to hospital facilities in the city.
The number of injured is unclear, although it seems that the only ones hurt are the three drivers.
The most seriously injured was Iván Darían Martínez Reyes, a resident of Altamira, near the Construction Materials Depot, previously known as the Colchonería, as indicated by the aforementioned communicator on Facebook.
According to information from close acquaintances, Martínez Reyes sustained serious injuries, particularly to the head, and underwent surgery. Family and friends have requested a prayer chain for his recovery.
As of the publication of this note, the identities of the other injured individuals have not been disclosed, and no further details about the cause of the incident are known.
Several internet users have noted the unusual nature of three motorcycles colliding like that, and some have speculated that what occurred might have been related to a motorcycle race, though this has not been confirmed.
"Unfortunately, I live very close by, and from the kitchen, I felt one of those engines coming at tremendous speed, and then I heard the crash. I didn't even have the courage to look because I started to pray and cry. But yes, one of them was going at extreme speed. I hope God puts His hand upon their health," commented a neighbor.
"It's not the time to judge anyone, but please, don't rush so much that you are risking your lives and leaving a shattered family behind. We know how the situation is, but we must take care of ourselves. God bless us all and protect us from so many tragedies," another user added.
A third party noted that "motorcyclists are causing chaos in Santiago de Cuba. They are racing, putting their lives and those of pedestrians at risk. The lack of governance is so severe that there is no control over anything."
However, others insisted on blaming the rising number of accidents in that province on the lack of functioning traffic lights due to the ongoing power outages, which increases the likelihood of road incidents.
Following the triple accident, Yosmany Mayeta reported another incident in which a motorcycle was also involved.
