The Miami-Dade police are seeking Zeniel Francisco Cabrera as a suspected perpetrator in a hit-and-run case that occurred on November 11 in the Redland area of Miami-Dade County.
The tragedy claimed the life of Alexis Muñoz, a 46-year-old Cuban and father of three, who had arrived in the U.S. only six months earlier in search of a better life.
The victim's wife, Sahyli Brito-Martínez, visibly distressed, made a public plea for assistance in locating the perpetrator.
"We come from Cuba like all Cubans, with the dream of a better life," he stated in comments collected by Telemundo 51.
"Please, anyone who knows the whereabouts of this person, contact the police," Brito-Martínez pleaded through tears.
"He was a great man; he didn’t deserve this," added the woman, who is the mother of the victim's youngest child, a three-year-old boy.
The accident occurred on November 11 at around 5:55 a.m. at the intersection of 208th Street and 194th Avenue in southwest Miami-Dade.
That day, Muñoz, who had just dropped off his wife at her job, was stopped on a scooter waiting to turn left toward his own workplace when he was struck by a gray Ford truck.
According to the traffic homicide detective, Michael Quiñones, the vehicle attempted to overtake him on the right, striking him with a trailer and leaving the victim trapped underneath.
The driver got out of the vehicle, removed Muñoz's body, and then fled the scene with the help of a man nicknamed "Rabiche," who picked him up in a red truck.
The suspect, identified as Zeniel Francisco Cabrera, 25 years old, may have fled to Mexico after the accident, according to the police.
Authorities also believe that the driver could return to the United States at any moment, as his girlfriend, who is nine months pregnant, is about to give birth.
The Miami-Dade police are also on the trail of the man who assisted the driver after the accident, a person nicknamed "Rabiche" and described as a man in his 50s to 60s.
A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest in this case.
Individuals with relevant information can contact the police at 305-471-2425.
