After the theft of a package from the door of a residence in South Miami was captured on camera in early December, the police arrested a Cuban man and woman in connection with this incident that took place in Miami-Dade County.

The detainees were identified by authorities as Leydis Vega, 30, and Dariel Massip, 31, both from Hialeah, who are facing multiple charges, according to reports from local media.

On the morning of December 7, Vega was caught on surveillance camera stealing a package from the front door of a house in the 6900 block of Southwest 63rd Avenue in South Miami, police reported.

After the theft was reported, Sergeant Fernando Bosch, spokesperson for the South Miami Police Department, indicated that the suspects were a man and a woman: “The man stays inside the car (a black Ford Mustang) while the young woman is the one who steals the package. We believe there are other neighborhoods that have also been victims of this couple.”

During the investigation, the surveillance video was released to the media, which prompted a person to call the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers line, allowing the police to identify and locate the woman.

This Monday morning, Vega voluntarily surrendered to the police department and fully cooperated with the authorities.

Bosch told Telemundo 51 that the accused admitted her crimes and showed some of the residences where they were allegedly committed. The young woman confessed to having a drug addiction problem and that Massip had convinced her to carry out the thefts in exchange for providing her with narcotics.

The Cuban woman, who was detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, appeared this Tuesday before the bail court and is facing charges of petty theft and burglary of an inhabited dwelling.

Meanwhile, Massip remains under arrest at the Metrowest Detention Center on several charges, including criminal incitement, and is awaiting his court appearance.

According to Local 10 News, although a bail of $2,500 was set in connection with the incident, the accused is being held without bail due to pending court orders.

According to the police, there may be other victims of the robberies committed by the couple, who could face additional charges.
