At the end of September, 11 young Cubans arrived in Moscow to continue their education in undergraduate and graduate programs related to the railway sector.

According to information provided by the Minister of Transport, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, with the arrival of this group, there were more than 80 professionals from the railway sector being trained in Russia as a result of the collaboration with Cuba.

The group consisted of seven engineering students and four workers, who would be trained at the Russian University of Transport.

The minister's statements overlooked the growing wave of dropouts among Cuban students in Russia, caused by the regime's constant delays in payment of maintenance, a problem that affects those facing the difficult conditions in the Asian giant, and which the Cuban leader chose not to mention.

Scholarships for International Students in Russia and the Situation of Cuban Students

What does the Russian government scholarship offer for international students?

The scholarship offers free studies for the entire academic period at a Russian university. Interested students must register on the designated online platform before January 15, 2025, for the 2025-2026 academic cycle.

What is the situation of Cuban students in Russia?

Cuban students in Russia are facing serious challenges due to the constant delays in maintenance payments from the Cuban regime. This has led to a wave of dropouts, as many students find themselves in precarious conditions and lacking the resources to survive in the Asian country.

Why are there dropouts among Cuban students in Russia?

The dropouts are mainly due to the constant delays in the support promised by the Cuban regime, forcing students to live in extremely precarious conditions. Furthermore, the degree obtained in Russia has no international validity, which discourages many from continuing their studies.

How does the situation of Cuban students impact Cuba-Russia relations?

Despite the desertions and difficulties, the relations between Cuba and Russia remain strong, centered on educational and economic collaboration. However, the precarious situation of Cuban students could lead to tensions and criticism towards the Cuban regime for not fulfilling its financial commitments.
