A Cuban woman and an Italian were the two fatalities in the serious traffic accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon on the National Highway.
The nationality of the deceased was revealed by Cubadebate, which cited Lieutenant Colonel Yaser Moya, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) in Cienfuegos, as the source.
In addition to the two deceased, seven other people were injured and were immediately transferred to the Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima General University Hospital.
A doctor interviewed by the television center Perlavisión mentioned that among the injured there are two in critical or very serious condition (red code); two serious (yellow code); and three others with minor injuries (green code).
According to preliminary reports, the 16-seater minibus from Transtur, coming from the Santa Fe base in Havana, collided with the highway divider at kilometer 209, near the municipality of Aguada de Pasajeros, for reasons that are under investigation.
Images shared on social media have shown the extent of the accident.
The vehicle was transporting eight tourists at the time of the impact.
The latest report from official sources did not mention that a truck was involved in the incident, as initially indicated.
As of the closing of this report, the identities of the injured and the two deceased have not been disclosed.
In the case of the deceased of Cuban origin, a commentator asserted on social media that she would be the tour guide of the group, 39 years old and residing in Monaco, in Havana.
In the first half of this newly begun 2025, there have already been several serious accidents on Cuban roads.
