Seven criminals were arrested by the police this week, accused of stealing from a private farmers' market in Santiago de las Vegas, Havana, after neutralizing the security guard on site, according to a source connected to the Ministry of the Interior (Minint).

In the early morning of Sunday, January 12, the suspects entered the agromarket on 413 Street between 186 and 188, in the municipality of Boyeros, surprising the security guard, whom they locked in, and stole four bags of rice and a “large quantity” of meat products, detailed the official profile on Facebook “El Cubano Fiel”.

The thieves were apprehended last Tuesday. The page did not identify them by name, but shared photographs of four of them.

The rise of crime, violence, and insecurity in Cuba is alarming and keeps the public on edge.

For years, the country has been experiencing a criminal escalation characterized by numerous thefts and assaults committed by individuals who even resort to physical violence and murder to take the victims' belongings.

In the last months of last year, the murders of three custodians and the assault on another, who managed to survive the attack, caused an uproar in Santiago de Cuba.

In Havana, several violent incidents have been reported, where criminals have attacked security guards, putting their lives at risk.

At the end of 2024, the Cuban regime admitted that crime remains high in the country, following a year in which social media was filled with reports of violent incidents of all kinds, amidst the silence of the state media.

The government conducted a massive nationwide police operation at the beginning of December, aimed at tightening the grip on crime, corruption, illegal activities, and social indiscipline.

During one week, the police made over 3,300 arrests, exemplary trials were held in courts across all provinces, and judicial processes against serious corruption cases were expedited, among other actions that the regime disseminated through its official communication channels.
