The author of the brutal murder of Artemio Luna Nápoles, a 69-year-old man who lived in the municipality of Songo La Maya, in Santiago de Cuba, was arrested this week by the authorities, according to sources linked to the Ministry of the Interior (Minint).
The attacker, identified as Leodan Silva, was a neighbor of the victim and committed the crime with the intention of stealing a television, reported the Facebook profile “Héroes del Moncada”.

The official version indicated that Luna was violently struck in the head with an object, which led to his death, and he was found dead in the yard of his home, according to testimonies from neighbors in the locality of Maya Este.
In the preliminary report of the tragic event, the independent site CubaNet reported that, during the morning hours of April 6, Luna was murdered in his home, located in the town of Belleza, allegedly to steal his checkbook, as well as a Panda brand television.
Relatives and neighbors claimed that the man lived alone, which may have been exploited by his attacker to carry out the crime more easily. According to the testimonies gathered at the time, the author or authors of the homicide used stones to strike him on the head until they took his life.
Dianelis Mina, the victim's neighbor, told CubaNet that "they ransacked his house, apparently searching for the check he had cashed the day before. Everything suggests that they called him, he went out, and they killed him."
Witnesses agreed that the police did not arrive at the scene until around three in the afternoon, about 10 hours after the crime, during which time the body remained in the sun.
Another resident in the area warned that the violent incident is not an isolated case, as in recent dates there have been at least three similar occurrences, which has created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the residents, who are afraid to go out at night or leave their homes unattended.
The province of Santiago de Cuba has experienced a concerning increase in criminal activities, including murders and violent robberies, which reflects a deterioration in citizen security in recent years.
At the end of March, nearly two months after his disappearance, the body of Agustín Rodríguez Domínguez was found in an advanced state of decomposition in the Chicharrones neighborhood of the capital city.
Last year, a series of murders of security guards at their workplaces were reported, aimed at robbing establishments. Authorities arrested Alex Recasén Suárez, accused of being the perpetrator of two of the murders that shocked the residents of Santiago de Cuba.
