The body in an advanced state of decomposition of the Santiago native Agustín Rodríguez Domínguez, known as Cachito, was found in a wooded area known as the Tanque Rojo on the hill of the Chicharrones neighborhood in Santiago de Cuba.

The discovery was made on Tuesday, March 25, nearly two months after his disappearance, during which time family members and close friends had searched intensively without official answers.

According to a report by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on Facebook, neighbors in the area and relatives of the deceased indicated from the very beginning that the remains could belong to Cachito, who lived at Calle 1ra #9, between 12 and 14 in the Dessy neighborhood.

The confirmation of his identity took place the following day, thanks to recognition by the family and the dissemination of the case on social media.

According to witnesses, the body was found hanging from a rope, although it was already severely decomposed and had been partially consumed by vultures and dogs, which hindered immediate identification. According to initial reports, only some remnants of human skin remained on the rope.

Possible motive: a prior conflict

Residents of Chicharrones speculate that the death may be linked to a previous conflict over horse or donkey meat, which is why Cachito had had issues with some local youths. Although those involved were detained at the time, they were released on bail of 50,000 pesos.

A relative of the victim, who requested anonymity out of fear of reprisals, stated that several people might be involved in the crime. Among them is an individual nicknamed Tontón, allegedly living on Calle 22 and a member of the family known as "los Pintos," as well as another person named Ernesto from the Ciudamar neighborhood.

They demand justice in the face of a wave of violence

The family and neighbors are demanding that the authorities conduct a thorough investigation of the case and that the alleged responsible parties face appropriate sentences for what they consider a premeditated murder.

"It is time for them to work as they should and not expose the people of Santiago to the wave of violence that is occurring in the province," denounced Mayeta Labrada in her post.

The community of Santiago de Cuba has expressed its concern over the increase in violent incidents in the region and the lack of prompt and effective responses from the authorities, including the Communist Party and the provincial government.

The journalist assured that he will continue to monitor the progress of the case and encouraged individuals with information to reach out through social media or WhatsApp to provide details that could help clarify the events.
