The host of Con Filo is going on a tour of 15 cities in Spain

Gabriela Fernández Álvarez, one of the most prominent figures in the Cuban regime's propaganda machinery, will embark on a tour of 15 cities in Spain from May 5 to May 21, under the title “Cuban Youth in Trump’s Era.”

The young presenter of the program “Con Filo”, a segment of Cuban Television that directly aligns with the ideological interests of the regime, will seek to defend the official narrative to European audiences, supported by the State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MESC).

The event has been announced by government-aligned media such as Cubainformación, which presents it as a series of talks where Fernández will discuss the consequences of the "economic war" imposed by the United States, as well as the impact of the media campaigns that, according to him, aim to discredit the Cuban socialist system.

The provisional program includes events in cities such as Madrid, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Málaga, Bilbao, Valencia, Gijón, and Seville, among others.

Some of the meetings will be open to the public, while others, such as those planned at the University of Seville or in Vilaboa, will be held behind closed doors.

Among the local hosts are venues from Izquierda Unida, the Communist Party of Spain, and associations that express solidarity with Cuba.

Born in Havana in 2000, Gabriela Fernández is a screenwriter and presenter of the program Con Filo, created in 2021 as a media response from the regime following the protests of July 11 of that year.

The television space is defined as "a trench against manipulation," although in practice it serves as a megaphone for the government's arguments to justify repression, structural crises, and the lack of freedoms on the island.

In addition to his role on television, Fernández publishes articles in Cubadebate, collaborates with the official feminist magazine Cimarronas, and serves as a lecturer at the Enrique José Varona University of Pedagogical Sciences.

According to media aligned with the government, he obtained a gold medal and certificates of academic excellence in 2024.

The official narrative of "resistance and dignity" contrasts sharply with the daily reality of the island, characterized by power outages, long lines, inflation, and a growing diaspora of young people who—unlike Gabriela—do not see a possible future within the Cuban system.

The title of the tour, “Cuban Youth in Times of Trump,” has also raised suspicions by identifying the U.S. president as the main culprit behind the Cuban crisis, despite the fact that he no longer holds power today.

This is another attempt to shift the responsibility for structural failure onto external enemies.

The regime, through its institutions, has shown unconditional support for the official spokesperson. Recently, the state chain Tiendas Caribe, in the Old Havana section, used its official social media account to publicly congratulate Gabriela Fernández Álvarez, host of the official program Con Filo, on her 25th birthday.

The message, which blends remarks about her hair color in a colloquial tone with political references, concludes with the phrase: “It is advisable to congratulate her in the comments,” which sparked criticism for the propagandistic use of institutional accounts.
