The iconic British singer Rod Stewart confessed that his friendship with president Donald Trump came to an end due to changes in the politician's attitude, especially since his arrival at the White House.

In statements made to Radio Times, Stewart revealed that he used to have a close relationship with Trump when they were neighbors in Florida.

"I knew Trump very, very well," said the musician, who explained that they lived "literally half a mile apart," and shared Christmas parties and beach gatherings. "I used to go to his house," he recalled.

Stewart explained that he admired a certain trait in Trump: "He always was a bit of a man's man," although he immediately added, "In my opinion, he didn't treat women very well."

The artist emphasized that the Trump he knew as president is no longer the same: "He has become another man. Someone I no longer recognize," he declared.

The distance between the two was also deepened for political and humanitarian reasons. Stewart strongly criticized the role of the United States—and also the United Kingdom—in the war in Gaza, particularly for supplying weapons to Israel.

"While they continue selling weapons to the Israelis, which they are still doing, how will that war stop?" the singer wondered.

He added, "What [Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin] Netanyahu is doing to the Palestinians is exactly what happened to the Jews. It is annihilation, and that is all he wants: to get rid of all of them. I don’t know how they sleep at night."

Rod Stewart, 79 years old, is currently recovering from the flu which forced him to cancel and postpone concerts in the United States.

The performer of "Have I Told You Lately?" and "Rhythm of My Heart" is set to return to the stage on June 29 as part of the legendary Glastonbury festival, where he will headline the "Legends" slot on the Pyramid stage.
