The ceasefire agreement and the first phase of the plan by United States President Donald Trump for the Gaza Strip came into effect this Friday with the withdrawal of Israeli forces from several Gazan cities.

“The ceasefire agreement came into effect at 12:00 PM (9:00 AM GMT),” confirmed the Israeli Army, marking the start of a 72-hour period during which the release of the 48 Israeli hostages still held by Palestinian militias is anticipated.

After the start of the ceasefire, the troops began to withdraw to the so-called "yellow line" within the Gaza Strip, a name derived from the color on the map released by the White House when announcing the agreement.

Eyewitnesses and reporters from EFE observed dozens of Gazans moving northward, towards the city of Gaza, along the Al Rashid coastal road.

The Army also abandoned the military checkpoint established in the Netzarim Corridor, south of the Gaza capital.

Israel retains control of more than half of the enclave

The ceasefire entails a partial withdrawal. The Israeli Army continues to occupy approximately 53% of Gaza's territory, a reduction from the previous control that exceeded 80% of the Palestinian enclave.

The military spokesperson in Arabic, Avichay Adraee, reported that the movement from south to north in Gaza is allowed via the Al Rashid and Salah al Din routes. He warned that there are areas that remain dangerous with the presence of Israeli forces.

Among the areas with the highest risk are the northern localities of Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, and Shujaiya, as well as the access to the Mediterranean Sea.

It is also considered extremely dangerous to approach the Rafah border crossing, the Philadelphia Corridor, and areas where there are still military concentrations in the Khan Younis region.

Warnings from the Gazan authorities

The Civil Defense of Gaza urged the population not to return to the areas recently evacuated by Israeli troops, especially the border areas of the city of Gaza, until authorities officially confirm their safety.

"Failing to heed this warning puts your life at risk. We urge everyone to comply for your safety and to facilitate the work of the emergency teams," stated the rescue services in a statement.

The ceasefire and partial withdrawal are part of a broader initiative driven by the Trump administration, aimed at reducing the intensity of the conflict and moving towards a political solution in the region.
