The official journalist Henry Omar Pérez sparked a wave of outrage on social media after sharing a post titled “Nutrition for chikungunya patients: Practical suggestions to support recovery.”

In the article, it recommended consuming eggs, fish, chicken, legumes, and fresh cheese as part of an "ideal diet" for those suffering from the disease.

The communicator stated on Facebook that “the body needs energy, hydration, proteins, and micronutrients to repair tissues, reduce inflammation, and regain strength,” and included examples of daily menus with foods that, in the current Cuban crisis, are unattainable for the majority of the population.

The reaction from users was immediate. Most comments agreed on labeling the post as a "mockery of the Cuban people," considering that the journalist is overlooking the country's economic reality.

“It is a very balanced diet, ideal, but difficult for most Cubans to follow. We know the reasons all too well,” wrote a user. Another noted, “From all of that, we choose what is within our reach.”

Internet users joked about the list of products, comparing it to a "five-star hotel menu". "That's fantastic, now I just need to find a bag of money to be able to buy it," commented another reader.

Some criticized that, while Cuba is facing a serious shortage of food, blackouts, and a lack of medicine, suggestions are being published that seem aimed "at a very select small group in the country."

"We will have to go to the dollar stores in another life, because in this one we get paid in national currency," noted another user.

The publication, which was intended to be a nutrition guide, ended up becoming a symbol of the disconnection between the official discourse and the harsh reality faced by Cuban families, many of whom can barely ensure one meal a day.
