The Cuban political prisoner Yosvany Rosell García Caso is in critical condition and suffering from acute renal failure, after 37 days on a hunger strike, his wife, Mailin Rodríguez Sánchez, reported on social media this Friday.

Rosell García, father of three children and sentenced for his participation in the protests of July 11, 2021 (11J), has gone more than a month without solid food in protest of the conditions of his imprisonment and the regime's refusal to review his case.

"In today's medical report at 7 a.m., he is reported in critical condition and experiencing kidney failure, due to the state of his urine and all the other symptoms we have been informing about. Every second counts due to the great risk to his life," Sánchez wrote on his social media.

The activist's wife expressed desperation over the lack of response from the Cuban authorities and international organizations.

"What has to happen for this human being to be saved? This family has no life; we are suffering and dying while we are still alive. I ask for a miracle, I ask for protection for my husband and help to end this anguish that is killing us."

Sánchez also denounced the silence of Cuban judicial institutions, which he accuses of being “blind, deaf, and mute to human suffering.”

"I don’t believe in justice. If something happens to my husband and my children suffer, I will lose control over myself," she warned.

Yosvany Rosell García Caso was arrested in Holguín during the protests on July 11, 2021, and sentenced to 30 years in prison for "public disorder and contempt", the highest sentence from the 11J, for charges that human rights organizations consider politically fabricated.

Since his incarceration, he has reported mistreatment, isolation, and lack of medical care, which led him to declare a hunger strike at the end of October.

His sentence was reduced by half following an appeal.

The Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH) and Prisoners Defenders warned that their situation constitutes a flagrant violation of the right to life and personal integrity, and called for their immediate release on humanitarian grounds.
